Whether you are new to working with adolescents or looking to refine your skills\, this workshop aims to provide parents and professionals with tools to break through barriers and build meaningful\, therapeutic relationships with hard-to-reach teens using creativity\, patience and authenticity. \nLearning Objectives:\n•    Understand adolescent development and engagement challenges\n•    Identify and Explore Personal Biases and Attitudes\n•    Improve Effective Communication Techniques\n•    Build confidence in challenging resistance with patience and connection \nBrianna received her MSW from the University of Minnesota in 2018 and currently holds a LICSW. Brianna works as a clinical program therapist with the MN Department of Corrections at Oak Park Heights prison’s Mental Health Unit. She has worked in the mental health field for over 10-years and has grown passionate about working as a licensed psychotherapist with children\, adolescents\, and adults who hold marginalized identities. Brianna enjoys presenting educational trainings to a variety of different agencies and organizations on topics including attachment and development\, severe and persistent mental illness\, LGBTQ+ topics and trauma-informed care. \nClosed Captioning will be available once the webinar begins.

SUMMARY:Adult Adoptee Support Group
DESCRIPTION:Adult Adoptees from all placing agencies are welcome to attend. While each story is unique\, we recognize that there are many core similarities that adoption weaves into life experiences. Topics will be suggested\, but each month the conversation will be open to relevant\, participant-led\, discussion. This is a safe\, confidential space\, the group is facilitated by adult adoptee CH/LSS staff. \nParticipants may have been adopted through any type of adoption (infant\, international\, foster care adoption) and through any agency/county. After registration\, you will receive information to join the next session. This service is provided by funding made possible by the Minnesota Department of Children\, Youth\, and Families. \nMeeting Details\nThis group meets on the second Thursday of the month from 6:00-7:30 p.m. (CT). Meetings alternate between online and in-person options. There is no cost to attend. You may register to attend one\, multiple\, or all dates offered below. \nIn-person meetings will take place at our main office: 1605 Eustis Street\, Saint Paul\, MN 55108. \nFor virtual meetings\, you will receive a Zoom link via email the day of the meeting.

DESCRIPTION:Children’s Home and LSS welcome you to attend this free meeting to learn about fostering and adopting children from within the Minnesota foster care system. This orientation will provide an overview of the process and address details such as children served\, timelines\, fees (spoiler: there are practically none!)\, licensing requirements\, and more. \nAdditional Information:\nAlong with completing this two-hour orientation\, you will also need to complete Foster Care & Adoption Education Class. Many families find it helpful to attend this orientation first because it is less time-intensive and will answer many of the general questions you may have about the process.

DESCRIPTION:This training helps participants understand the impact of parenting children from different racial/ethnic/cultural backgrounds and to know how to honor and incorporate child’s race/ethnicity/culture into their existing family system. Strategies are identified to help children develop positive and proud identities and to help children and families prepare for and handle racism in all forms. Openness to a child’s sexual orientation and gender identity and expression and viewing these differences from a strengths-based perspective is also highlighted. \nThis training is for Ampersand non-relative families who are going through the home study assessment process. Please consult with your permanency specialist before signing up. \nAll trainings are subject to change or cancellation based on need.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could use the same (or less!) energy to prevent meltdowns? What if there were a few minor adjustments that could dramatically decrease big reactions? We will dig into this and more together in this webinar. The learning experience will be customized for adoptive/foster parents with content from various sources commonly used in school-settings including restorative practices\, positive behavior supports\, trauma-aware care\, and developmentally-appropriate expectations. \nPresented by Dr. Jennie Bordonaro \nDr. Jennie Bordonaro has spent 17 years in the field of education. She has served many roles including classroom teacher\, behavior interventionist\, graduate school instructor\, building principal\, and statewide continuous improvement specialist. Her passion is around educational equity and ensuring that all students have access to a high-quality education.
