SUMMARY:Rewiring the Mind: Healing Trauma Through Transformative Practices
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE: To receive a certificate of attendance for the live webinar\, attendees must register individually\, attend the entire training\, and watch from their own device to ensure proper tracking \nDonna Jackson Nakazawa will guide participants through a series of neuroscience-based guided writing experiences\, from her new book\, The Adverse Childhood Experiences Guided Journal. Studies show if we’ve faced challenging life experiences it can change our set point for well being and make it harder for us to stay calm when the children we care for are struggling. Feeling dysregulated\, being stuck on high alert\, a lack of self-compassion\, all of these require us\, as caregivers\, to do the courageous work of attending to our own healing. Putting thoughts on paper in a curated\, science-based step by step way can help us to identify and adopt new ways of responding to stress and reset our brain’s pathways for neurobiological resilience. We will use the power of journaling to release worry\, create new habits of self-talk\, move away from harsh self-criticism\, and access deep inner calm. **Please bring to the workshop: paper\, pencil\, Sharpie\, and Post-It Notes. \nDonna Jackson Nakazawa is an award-winning author\, internationally known speaker\, and author of nine books. Her upcoming book\, Mind Drama: The Science of Rumination and How to Outwit your Inner Defeatist\, is a scientific exploration of rumination; one the most corrosive mental habits we can engage in. Donna explores why we’re all doing it more\, how it can undermine our mental health\, and what science tells us about new ways to turn dark ruminative energy into something empowering and purposeful. Donna’s book\, Girls on the Brink: Helping Our Daughters Thrive in an Era of Increased Anxiety\, Depression\, and Social Media\, was named a best book of 2022 by The Washington Post. Her other books include The Angel and the Assassin: The Tiny Brain Cell That Changed the Course of Medicine\, named a best book of 2020 by Wired; the bestselling Childhood Disrupted\, a finalist for the Books for a Better Life Award\, and The Adverse Childhood Experiences Guided Journal\, in which Donna guides readers through a personalized healing journey. Donna is also the founder and creator of the narrative writing-to-heal program\, Your Healing Narrative. Her writing has appeared in Wired\, The Boston Globe\, Stat\, The Washington Post\, Psychology Today\, Psychotherapy Networker\, and the journal Health Affairs. She has appeared on The Today Show and NPR and is a regular speaker at events\, including the Child Mind Institute\, Harvard Science\, UCLA Health\, Open Mind\, Rutgers University\, The GPS Parent Series\, Johns Hopkins\, Children’s Hospitals\, and the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine\, where she is a frequent guest lecturer.
