SUMMARY:[Fall Forum] Fighting the Darkness by Sharing Your Light
DESCRIPTION:So many of us battle depression and anxiety on a regular basis or know someone that does. Making it even more difficult is the fact that most fight their “Darkness” in secret. Chris Hawkey was one of those people until an unlikely scenario led him to bring his battle into the light. Chris will talk about how going public with his depression helped him with his own mental health issues. He’ll also reveal how each of us can help ourselves and those we love to bring our own darkness into the light.

SUMMARY:W.I.S.E. Up!®
DESCRIPTION:FREE Dinner and Live Workshop for Parents and Children (Grades 3-6) \nW.I.S.E. Up!® is an empowerment program designed to create a safe space for children to express their feelings about being adopted and prepare them for intrusive questions and insensitive remarks from peers and others:  \n“Why don’t you look like your parents?”  \n“How much did you cost?”  \n“Where are your real parents?”  \nTo empower BOTH foster and adopted children\, The Center for Adoption Support and Education (C.A.S.E.) developed W.I.S.E. Up!®. This program teaches children that they can decide if\, when and how to share their story. When the questions begin\, W.I.S.E. Up!® gives kids the tools to answer.  \nWho: Foster and adopted children\, grades 3-6\, and their caregivers (childcare available upon request)  \nWhere: Children’s Home/Lutheran Social Service\, 1605 Eustis Street\, St. Paul\, MN 55108  \nWhen: Monday\, November 3\, 2025\, 5:30-7:30 PM  \nWhat: Chipotle dinner\, then youth\, parent\, and combined workshops  \n  \nWe are thankful to the State of Minnesota Department of Children\, Youth and Families for providing the funding for this dinner and workshop. Optional workbooks will be available for purchase for $15 at the event (recommended one per family).
