SUMMARY:"I don't care if others like me…I like me!" Teaching Teens Self-Acceptance
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE: To receive a certificate of attendance for the live webinar\, attendees must register individually\, attend the entire training\, and watch from their own device to ensure proper tracking \nSelf-acceptance is vital for teens\, and self-compassion is a method to work toward it.  In this workshop\, you will learn what self-compassion is\, and how self-compassion tools can be taught to teens to help them support themselves through challenging times. Through acquiring these vital coping skills\, teens learn how to be less self-critical\, how to be their own inner coach or own best friend. In research studies\, teens who participate in self-compassion programs report lower stress\, anxiety and depression – and even less suicidal thinking – after the program is over and in the months that follow. An overview of this research will be presented in the workshop. The workshop will be interactive – you will learn self-compassion skills by engaging in activities and exercises\, and discussion will follow. You will leave with a plan on how to implement what you have learned with the teens with whom you work. \n  \n\nDr. Karen Bluth is Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina\, where she conducts research on self-compassion and its influences on the emotional wellbeing of teens. Dr. Bluth is co-creator of the curriculum Mindful Self-Compassion for Teens and the author of “The Self-Compassion Workbook for Teens: Mindfulness and Compassion Skills to Overcome Self-Criticism and Embrace Who You Are”\, “The Self-Compassionate Teen: Mindfulness and Self-Compassion Skills to Conquer Your Critical Inner Voice”\, co-author of “Mindfulness and Self-Compassion for Teen ADHD: Build Executive Functioning Skills\, Increase Motivation\, and Improve Self-Confidence” and the Audible Original “Self-Compassion for Teen Girls: A Guide for Parents\, Teachers\, and Coaches.” Her latest book\, “Mindful Self-Compassion for Teens in Schools: A 16-session Social and Emotional Learning Curriculum”  was released June 2024\, and offers a version of the Mindful Self-Compassion for Teens curriculum that is formatted for the classroom. She is also a developer of Embracing Your Life: A Self-Compassion Program for Young Adults and Self-Compassion for Educators. In addition\, she is the 2022 recipient of the inaugural Mind and Life Foundation award for Public Communication of Contemplative Research. \nAs a mindfulness practitioner for over 45 years\, a mindfulness teacher\, and an educator with 18 years of classroom teaching experience\, Dr. Bluth frequently gives talks\, conducts workshops\, and teaches classes in self-compassion and mindfulness in educational and community settings.
