SUMMARY:Beyond the Behavior: Understanding FASD Through a Brain-Based Lens
DESCRIPTION:In this 90-minute workshop\, parents\, caregivers\, and professionals will learn to look beyond the behavior and recognize challenging behaviors as possible symptoms of a brain and nervous system working differently. Through a practical\, neuroscience-informed lens\, participants will explore why traditional behavior-based approaches are often ineffective for individuals with FASD and how shifting from “How do we get this person to behave?” to “What does this person’s brain need in order to be successful?” can lead to more compassionate\, meaningful\, and effective support.

SUMMARY:The Sound of Welcome: Using Music to Ease a Child’s First Days in Foster Care
DESCRIPTION:A child’s first days in foster care can feel unfamiliar\, overwhelming\, and unpredictable. This presentation explores how foster parents can use trauma-sensitive music experiences to create comfort\, consistency\, and connection during a new placement. Participants will learn practical musical rituals for transitions\, bedtime\, mealtimes\, car rides\, and moments of emotional distress. The session will also address how tempo\, volume\, song choice\, and repetition can influence regulation\, as well as why a child’s preferences\, culture\, history\, and sensory needs must guide each experience. No musical training is required. Foster parents will leave with approachable strategies such as welcome playlists\, familiar-song routines\, rhythmic breathing\, musical choice-making\, and personalized transition songs. These tools are designed to support felt safety without forcing interaction\, emotional disclosure\, or attachment. Music becomes a gentle invitation: helping individuals of all ages know what to expect\, express themselves safely\, and begin building trust at their own pace within a new caregiving relationship.

SUMMARY:Hope in the Age of Artificial Everything
DESCRIPTION:Artificial intelligence is reshaping how we live\, learn\, and lead\, making human-centered leadership skills more essential than ever. Dr. Julia Garcia integrates psychological insight\, cultural innovation\, and lived community impact to help leaders strengthen the human capacities technology cannot replicate.\nDrawing from experience supporting over a million people through cultural and mental health challenges\, partnering with hundreds of schools\, organizations\, and communities\, and building award-winning tools used around the world\, Dr. Garcia delivers a high-energy conversation grounded in real-world insight. She equips us with the mental habits that fuel clear thinking\, courageous communication\, and meaningful connection in a rapidly shifting landscape. \nIn a time when AI can mimic almost anything\, Dr. Garcia gives audiences what technology cannot: real activation. Through live interaction\, courageous conversations\, and behavioral-science-backed exercises\, she interrupts the habits that cause people to hold back and helps them build the ones that move cultures forward. Participants do not just learn the habits of hope. They practice them in real time.\nA psychologist\, cultural technologist\, and spoken-word storyteller\, Dr. Garcia blends science\, story\, and strategy to create an experience that leaves audiences not just informed\, but deeply engaged\, aligned\, and more human together.  This presentation draws from her new book\, The 5 Habits of Hope (HarperCollins)\, a practical\, research-backed framework for strengthening the mental habits that expand human capacity and community connection. \nLearning Outcomes: \nStrengthen the human skills that drive clarity\, collaboration\, and meaningful connection. \nBuild cultures where trust and purpose guide the people who carry out the mission across leadership teams\, classrooms\, and communities. \nReduce burnout and disconnection through evidence-based mental habits that improve communication\, problem-solving\, and adaptability.

SUMMARY:The New Science of Rumination\, Trauma\, and Well-Being\, with Donna Jackson Nakazawa
DESCRIPTION:Drawing on contemporary neuroscience from Nakazawa’s book\, Mind Drama\, this  webinar is designed for adoptive\, foster\, and kinship parents raising children who have experienced early adversity\, attachment disruptions\, and chronic stress. It explores how children’s brains and nervous systems can become caught in patterns of looping thoughts\, self-criticism\, worry\, or dissociation\, how these responses originate in the Survival Brain and default mode network\, and why these neurobiological responses in response to stress often reflect attempts to feel safe. Parents will learn about effective therapeutic interventions that specifically address trauma-related ruminative thought patterns. The program also helps parents recognize when their own worry\, overwhelm\, or rumination may be making it harder to stay present and responsive\, offering simple strategies to pause\, regulate\, and reconnect with themselves and their children.
