SUMMARY:[Fall Forum] Unlocking the Power of Play for Connection
DESCRIPTION:Play is biologically hard-wired into every human. It’s not frivolous; it’s a powerful\, fundamental tool to build resilience\, empathy\, connection\, trust\, well-being\, creativity\, optimism\, and more. Play enables human flourishing. In this workshop\, we will dive into the neuroscience of play and walk away with practical ways to leverage play in work\, relationships\, and life. \n  \n\nMia Sundstrom is the Director for Play Transformation at the National Institute for Play. She also works part-time for the Office of the Chancellor at the University of Denver as a project manager for character education. Mia has appeared on podcasts\, delivered keynotes\, led workshops\, and consulted with organizations regarding the application of play and character as a competitive advantage.  Mia was previously an NCAA D1 assistant coach for the University of Denver’s top-10 gymnastics team. Before coaching\, she was a student-athlete and captain for Denver Gymnastics\, helping lead the program to a historic fourth-place finish while earning two degrees: a Master’s in Public Policy (’23) and a Bachelor’s in Business Information and Analytics  (’21).

SUMMARY:[Fall Forum] Fighting the Darkness by Sharing Your Light
DESCRIPTION:So many of us battle depression and anxiety on a regular basis or know someone that does. Making it even more difficult is the fact that most fight their “Darkness” in secret. Chris Hawkey was one of those people until an unlikely scenario led him to bring his battle into the light. Chris will talk about how going public with his depression helped him with his own mental health issues. He’ll also reveal how each of us can help ourselves and those we love to bring our own darkness into the light.

SUMMARY:[Fall Forum] Restoring Developmental Pathways for Children Impacted by Trauma and Neglect
DESCRIPTION:Children who have experienced abuse\, neglect\, or other significant disruptions in care often carry unmet developmental needs that affect their ability to trust\, self- and co-regulate\, and form connected and safe relationships. This webinar will introduce a practical framework for understanding these gaps through the lens of core relational needs and the need–response cycle — a foundational process in healthy development. Participants will learn how trauma\, neglect and deprivation interrupt this cycle\, how these disruptions show up in a child’s inner and outer worlds\, and how to intentionally offer “missing experiences” that promote healing. Drawing on principles from attachment theories\, sensory processing\, psychomotor\, psychotherapy and developmental psychology\, we will explore concrete strategies for attuning to a child’s underlying needs\, responding in ways that build safety and connection\, and supporting the gradual restoration of trust and healing.
