SUMMARY:[Spring Summit] Mind Drama: The Science of Rumination and How to Outwit Your Inner Defeatist
DESCRIPTION:“Why’d I do that? He’s such a jerk! I’m such an idiot! What did she mean by that comment?”  In this webinar\, Donna Jackson Nakazawa explains why we so often become lost in our most self-defeating thoughts and how to transform our negative thinking into something empowering and productive\, so that we can become the parents we want to be. \nIdeally\, our thought spirals help us process difficult situations and emotions. When they become repetitive\, however\, they can be highly problematic: your brain is ruminating. And science has shown the degree to which we ruminate\, perhaps more than any other mental act\, determines our life-long well-being. Join Donna as she gets inside the strange magnetism of rumination\, explains why we’re all doing it now more than ever\, and shares the new science for decoding\, outwitting\, and repurposing this dark mental habit.

SUMMARY:Is It Really RAD?
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will explore attachment in a realistic and straightforward way\, distinguishing between Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) and attachment concerns. The main goal is to help caregivers and professionals understand the differences in attachment strategies and that not every attachment struggle is RAD. A second goal is to give parents hope for healing from broken attachments. We will identify ways to encourage attachment healing while gaining a better understanding of how attachment happens.

SUMMARY:From Talking to Action: The Miracle of Childhood Resilience and What We Do With It
DESCRIPTION:How a child learns to cope with adversity plays a vital role in their psychological development. Resilience\, often described as the “crown jewel” of childhood mental health\, has gained significant attention over the past decade. While the term has become a buzzword\, much of the discourse remains focused on definitions and broad benefits\, with less emphasis on how to actively help a child build resilience in real-world settings. \nThe aim of this workshop is to shift the discussion of childhood resilience from theory to practice.  The main objectives are: \n-Provide an overview of the latest research on resilience in children\n-Explore evidence-based interventions that strengthen a child’s psychological immune system and bolder resilience\n-Offer practical\, concrete strategies that professionals and caregivers can use to foster resilience every day \nWe as professionals have a great understanding of resilience\, and the goal of this workshop is to turn our understanding into action\, and explore how we can nurture the miracle of resilience in the children we serve.

SUMMARY:[Spring Summit] Compassionate Accountability: Supporting Self-Efficacy in Children's Mental Healthcare
DESCRIPTION:Compassionate Accountability: Supporting Self-Efficacy in Children’s Mental Healthcare is an engaging\, interactive session designed to help caregivers and professionals strike the critical balance between empathy and responsibility. Participants will explore how building self-efficacy strengthens motivation\, resilience\, and long-term outcomes for children and adolescents—without minimizing real mental health challenges. Through practical frameworks\, real-world case examples\, and hands-on discussion\, attendees will learn how to foster accountability with children rather than for them. This session equips attendees with concrete language\, strategies\, and confidence to support growth\, autonomy\, and resilience in the youth they serve.

SUMMARY:[Spring Summit] Child to Parent Violence
DESCRIPTION:Child to Parent Violence (CPV) is an often misunderstood and under-recognized form of family violence that leaves parents feeling overwhelmed\, ashamed\, isolated\, and unsure where to turn for help. This training provides a comprehensive\, trauma-informed exploration of child to parent violence\, examining the complex interplay between early attachment experiences\, relational trauma\, nervous system dysregulation\, and family systems that contribute to aggressive\, controlling\, or violent behaviors directed toward caregivers.\nParticipants will learn how CPV differs from typical childhood defiance or behavioral challenges and why traditional behavior management strategies often fail to address the root causes of these behaviors. Drawing from attachment theory\, developmental neuroscience\, and relational trauma research\, this training reframes child to parent violence not as willful “bad behavior\,” but as a signal of unmet needs\, chronic stress\, and maladaptive survival responses within the brain and body. Special attention will be given to how early adversity—including neglect\, emotional abuse\, disrupted attachment\, exposure to domestic violence\, and chronic relational stress—can shape a child’s capacity for regulation\, impulse control\, and safe relational engagement.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Technology\, the Teenage Mind\, and Experiences of Loss
DESCRIPTION:Join Us for a Webinar: Technology\, the Teenage Mind\, and Experiences of Loss\nTuesday\, March 17th from 1-2:30 pm (CT) via Zoom\nYoung people today are growing up in a world where online and offline experiences are deeply intertwined. For some teens\, especially those who have experienced loss\, instability\, or major transitions\, digital spaces can be both a source of comfort and connection and a place where risks are harder to see. In this interactive online session\, Erin Walsh draws on adolescent brain science\, research on digital wellbeing\, and real-world examples to explore the core protective factors for young people in the digital age. Participants will leave with practical strategies for setting thoughtful digital boundaries\, opening ongoing conversations about online experiences\, and supporting safer\, more resilient digital habits grounded in trust and care. \nPresented by Erin Walsh \nErin Walsh is co-founder of Spark & Stitch Institute and author of It’s Their World: Teens\, Screens\, and the Science of Adolescence. She has worked with communities across the country who want to better understand child and adolescent development and cut through conflicting information about kids and technology. Her work has been featured in the Washington Post\, Edutopia\, Parents.com\, Psychology Today\, and Minnesota Public Radio. She co-authored the Tenth Anniversary Edition of the national bestseller Why Do They Act That Way? A Survival Guide to the Adolescent Brain for You and Your Teen and has worked with schools\, school districts\, parent groups and other youth serving organizations throughout the United States and Canada on issues related to digital media\, parenting\, and child and adolescent development.
