SUMMARY:Creating Felt Safety
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE: To receive a certificate of attendance for the live webinar\, attendees must register individually\, attend the entire training\, and watch from their own device to ensure proper tracking \nBeing safe doesn’t equal feeling safe! Creating felt-safety is crucial if we want to help our children decrease dysregulated behaviors. So what is felt-safety and how can we cultivate it within our families? This training addresses the three places children are looking to determine if they are safe–and it’s happening below conscious awareness. This means we can’t TELL them they are safe–we have to create environments in which they can FEEL safe. By the end\, you’ll have learned practical tools related to: the importance of moving your own nervous system into a state of safety\, how to adjust the environment to increase felt-safety\, and ways to support your child’s inner-experience to invite felt-safety. \n  \n\nRobyn Gobbel\, MSW\, has 20 years of practice in family and child therapy\, specializing in complex trauma\, attachment\, and adoption. She integrated her diverse clinical training to offer an attachment-rich\, sensory-sensitive and relational neurosciences supported healing environment for children and families. Robyn now consults\, teachers\, and trains extensively throughout the U.S. She is the host of The Baffling Behavior Show podcast and author of Raising Kids with Big\, Baffling Behaviors: Brain-Body-Sensory Strategies that Really Work.

SUMMARY:"I don't care if others like me…I like me!" Teaching Teens Self-Acceptance
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE: To receive a certificate of attendance for the live webinar\, attendees must register individually\, attend the entire training\, and watch from their own device to ensure proper tracking \nSelf-acceptance is vital for teens\, and self-compassion is a method to work toward it.  In this workshop\, you will learn what self-compassion is\, and how self-compassion tools can be taught to teens to help them support themselves through challenging times. Through acquiring these vital coping skills\, teens learn how to be less self-critical\, how to be their own inner coach or own best friend. In research studies\, teens who participate in self-compassion programs report lower stress\, anxiety and depression – and even less suicidal thinking – after the program is over and in the months that follow. An overview of this research will be presented in the workshop. The workshop will be interactive – you will learn self-compassion skills by engaging in activities and exercises\, and discussion will follow. You will leave with a plan on how to implement what you have learned with the teens with whom you work. \n  \n\nDr. Karen Bluth is Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina\, where she conducts research on self-compassion and its influences on the emotional wellbeing of teens. Dr. Bluth is co-creator of the curriculum Mindful Self-Compassion for Teens and the author of “The Self-Compassion Workbook for Teens: Mindfulness and Compassion Skills to Overcome Self-Criticism and Embrace Who You Are”\, “The Self-Compassionate Teen: Mindfulness and Self-Compassion Skills to Conquer Your Critical Inner Voice”\, co-author of “Mindfulness and Self-Compassion for Teen ADHD: Build Executive Functioning Skills\, Increase Motivation\, and Improve Self-Confidence” and the Audible Original “Self-Compassion for Teen Girls: A Guide for Parents\, Teachers\, and Coaches.” Her latest book\, “Mindful Self-Compassion for Teens in Schools: A 16-session Social and Emotional Learning Curriculum”  was released June 2024\, and offers a version of the Mindful Self-Compassion for Teens curriculum that is formatted for the classroom. She is also a developer of Embracing Your Life: A Self-Compassion Program for Young Adults and Self-Compassion for Educators. In addition\, she is the 2022 recipient of the inaugural Mind and Life Foundation award for Public Communication of Contemplative Research. \nAs a mindfulness practitioner for over 45 years\, a mindfulness teacher\, and an educator with 18 years of classroom teaching experience\, Dr. Bluth frequently gives talks\, conducts workshops\, and teaches classes in self-compassion and mindfulness in educational and community settings. In addition\, she trains teachers in Mindful Self-Compassion for Teens internationally.

SUMMARY:Risk is not Destiny: Behavioral Interventions for Children and Teens Affected by Prenatal Substance Exposure
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE: To receive a certificate of attendance for the live webinar\, attendees must register individually\, attend the entire training\, and watch from their own device to ensure proper tracking \nThousands of children per year in this country are delivered to women who have used alcohol\, tobacco\, marijuana\, or illicit drugs during pregnancy.  This program will explore the biological and environmental factors that impact the ultimate development of substance-exposed children\, provide a conceptual framework for understanding the behavior and learning difficulties of children affected by prenatal substance exposure\, and discuss how this framework can be applied to the development of interventions at home and at school. \n  \n\nIra J. Chasnoff\, M.D.\, an award-winning author\, researcher and lecturer\, is president of NTI Upstream and a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. He is one of the nation’s leading researchers in the field of child development and the effects of environmental factors on the developmental trajectory of children and adolescents. Dr. Chasnoff’s work encompasses community approaches to the integration of behavioral health services into primary health care\, the schools\, and the other multiple systems that serve children and families. Dr. Chasnoff has served several U.S. presidential administrations on committees and commissions dedicated to organizing and coordinating services for children and families across the nation and developing policies and procedures for addressing the needs of children at risk from prenatal and postnatal trauma. He also has worked with a wide range of States across the nation and internationally in developing universal outreach and early intervention programs for children and families affected by trauma or substance abuse. \nDr. Chasnoff received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio\, which in 1991 awarded him its first Distinguished Alumnus Award. He is the author of numerous research articles regarding the long-term cognitive\, behavioral\, and learning outcomes of high-risk children\, and his article on racial and social class bias in the health care system has been cited as a landmark study by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Dr. Chasnoff has authored 15 books\, which have received numerous awards and one of which has been recognized by The Hague International Court. Dr. Chasnoff’s books explore the biological and environmental factors that impact the ultimate development of high-risk children and presents practical strategies for helping children reach their full potential at home and in the classroom. His newest book\, Guided Growth\, has received international acclaim for its in-depth discussion of educational and behavioral interventions for children and teens with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders and early trauma. Dr. Chasnoff has been a regular contributor to Psychology Today\, writing about high-risk children and their families. The recipient of several awards for his work with women\, children\, and families\, Dr. Chasnoff for several years has been selected by a poll of physicians across the nation for listing in America’s Best Doctors\, cited for his ability to translate complex medical and psychosocial issues into relevant policy that guides the delivery of quality services. SUMMARY:The Spectrum of Self-Harm in Adolescents
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE: To receive a certificate of attendance for the live webinar\, attendees must register individually\, attend the entire training\, and watch from their own device to ensure proper tracking \nBest Practices for Assessment and Intervention.  Dr. Sam Marzouk will focus on two related but distinct areas on the self-harm spectrum.  First\, he will discuss adolescent suicidality and present relevant research on the risk factors and warning signs.  He will also spend ample time discussing best practices for intervening from creating a safety plan to effectively advising parents/caregivers on how to respond to suicidality.  Next\, he will discuss non-suicidal self-injurious behavior (NSSIB; e.g.\, cutting). Dr. Marzouk will explain how while there is a relationship between suicidal behavior and NSSIB\, they are two very different constructs.  He will explain theories on why teens engage in this behavior\, offer strategies for how to discuss this with teens\, and strategies for how to collaborate with caregivers and teens to prevent future instances of NSSIB.
