Building a Pathway for Trauma-Informed Youth
June 11 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
FreeThrough childhood and adolescence we encounter critical incidents in which the opportunity to become more aware of ourselves and emotionally connected to another is made available. Trauma steals that from us. In this training, Cam interrogates the process through which trauma turns “everything was good” to “everything is cursed.” Helping youth become trauma-informed cultivates clarity for adoptees and their families about person-specific realities which our mainstream culture has yet to reach. In doing so, we help turn an ever-long desperation for escape into a progressive inclination toward health, wellness, community, and hope. Please join us for collaborative training and dialogue with Cam to consider both adoptee testimonies and clinical strategies that illustrate the significance of sharing the process of trauma-informed care with the next generation of adoptees.
Cam’s personal experience as an international adoptee from Korea informs and inspires his current professional work. He formed his own private practice, Therapy Redeemed, in 2018, to raise awareness and respond to the mental health needs of adoptees and their families wherever they may be in their adoption journey. Cam’s vision for adoptee-centered advocacy is evident through his 1:1 counseling services, live workshops and support groups, Masterclass trainings, and his active content creation/collaboration in and through various media platforms. His work has been featured in Christianity Today, National Council for Adoption, University of Minnesota School of Social Work, and Center for Adoption Support and Education. He is currently working on a manuscript for a book to be released through InterVarsity Press to address the intersection of adoption, mental health, and social justice. Cam brings value and much needed perspective to the adoption community, personally and professionally.
