Rethinking Challenging Behavior: Relationship, Regulation & the Brain in Mind
Most of us were taught that the way to change behaviors is through consequences and rewards. But that lens misses something essential: what is happening beneath the behavior.
In this practical, hopeful talk, Dr. Tina Payne Bryson challenges common assumptions about discipline and helps caregivers and professionals understand what’s really driving children’s most challenging behaviors, and why the approaches we default to so often fall short, especially with kids who are trying to build trust with their caregivers. Drawing on attachment science and neuroscience, she’ll reframe what discipline and intervention are actually for, and how to do it effectively while building trust and connection.
Participants will leave with both a new lens and practical tools: how showing up, relationship, and regulation help children feel safe, seen, soothed, and secure so that they can build the skills they need to thrive.
