Always a Parent: Understanding the Impact Ambiguous Loss and Disenfranchised Grief
In this webinar, attendees will:
– Understand the concept of ambiguous loss and disenfranchised grief for people whose children are parented by others due to a termination of parental rights, transfer of legal custody, foster care, parental alienation, and similar circumstances.
– Recognize reasons for removal from one’s children and how ACEs factor into these experiences.
– Hear accounts of how separation from one’s children can create and/or intensify feelings of grief, shame, and isolation, which can compromise executive functioning and lead to or increase mental health issues, substance abuse and/or criminal activity.
– Discuss how recognition, support, and compassion for parents with these experiences help them develop greater resilience in the face of their grief and allow them to live a more productive and purposeful life.
– Learn how Bellis’ Stronger Together Peer Support Model works to mitigate this hidden, yet pervasive crisis.
