Countering Learned Helplessness in Youth

May 29 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

In this workshop, we will delve into strategies for combating learned helplessness in young individuals. Our focus will be twofold: examining the factors that contribute to the development of learned helplessness in youth, and exploring the concept of learned optimism as its antithesis.

Laura Thro M.P.S. focuses on healing after trauma by utilizing restorative and transformational approaches through program development, implementation, and training. She facilitates a restorative practice program for individuals in correctional facilities aimed at transformation through accountability. Laura holds various degrees in psychology, domestic violence, criminology, and violence prevention. She also developed and taught an Introduction to Domestic Violence course at UMD.
