The Intersection of ADD/ADHD and Sensory Processing Disorder

April 22 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

Sensory processing (SP) refers to the ability to detect, interpret, and respond appropriately to sensory stimuli in the environment. Children who have difficulty processing sensory stimuli within their environment frequently are misdiagnosed with attention deficit disorder (ADD) or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).  This session will describe the behavioral presentations of children with SP disorders and discuss the differences between SP disorders and ADD/ADHD. Strategies to address the intervention needs of this population of children will also be presented.
