The New Science of Rumination, Trauma, and Well-Being, with Donna Jackson Nakazawa
Drawing on contemporary neuroscience from Nakazawa’s book, Mind Drama, this webinar is designed for adoptive, foster, and kinship parents raising children who have experienced early adversity, attachment disruptions, and chronic stress. It explores how children’s brains and nervous systems can become caught in patterns of looping thoughts, self-criticism, worry, or dissociation, how these responses originate in the Survival Brain and default mode network, and why these neurobiological responses in response to stress often reflect attempts to feel safe. Parents will learn about effective therapeutic interventions that specifically address trauma-related ruminative thought patterns. The program also helps parents recognize when their own worry, overwhelm, or rumination may be making it harder to stay present and responsive, offering simple strategies to pause, regulate, and reconnect with themselves and their children.
