February 13 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

PLEASE NOTE: To receive a certificate of attendance for the live webinar, attendees must register individually, attend the entire training, and watch from their own device to ensure proper tracking

Biological kids are a vital part of the foster or adoptive family. This presentation will examine the experiences of biological children from the lens of grief and loss, allow professionals to consider approaches to supporting biological children too, and inspire a more holistic care for the entire foster or adoptive family.

Daniela is a self-identified birth kid. Her parents fostered when she was a child, and eventually adopted her youngest sibling. Having grown up in a home that fostered and adopted, Daniela was a temporary sibling to many children. Now, Daniela and her husband have six children – four through adoption and two by birth. While Daniela has a variety of experience in social work contexts, she has spent most of her career working in foster care and adoption. Daniela Coats is a Licensed Master Social Worker in the state of Texas. She is currently a therapist under supervision at Be Still Counseling and Consulting in Texas. She has developed trainings and resources for parents and professionals through her organization, With Siblings. She has contributed to professional writings on the subject, and is the author of “The Day Lily Turned (un)Invisible,” a story that follows the journey of a biological child in a foster family.
