We often focus on the time it takes for children to reach permanency and strive to meet permanency timelines set by both the courts and the federal government. However, it is also important to consider why timely permanency is important to children. This training will explore children’s developmental knowledge and understanding of time. Participants will learn about the impact of time away from caregivers and the importance of permanency for children and families, as well as language to support and increase children’s understanding of their experiences and of time.

Objectives:

· Understand a child’s sense of time.

· Understand how time away from primary caregivers can affect a child’s stability.

· Learn skills to talk with youth about their experiences.

Anna Clavin is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist with years of experience working alongside families who are at risk and/or with families in the child welfare system. She provides outpatient therapy at a non-profit mental health agency. She offers systemic based services to individuals, couples and families with an emphasis on attachment, development and trauma. She is dedicated to helping individuals and families find hope, strength and connection by supporting emotional, relational and developmental growth. Anna uses a reflective stance to provide trauma-informed and culturally responsive services to all people. She is endorsed through the Minnesota Association for Children’s Mental Health as an Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist.
